May 2013 saw the launch of Zenodo (www.zenodo.org), an open access European scientific data repository. Zenodo is a collaboration between CERN and OpenAIRE (Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe) and is supported by the European Commission.

The name Zenodo comes from Zenodotus, the first librarian of the Ancient Library of Alexandria and father of the first recorded use of metadata, a landmark in library history.
