The growth of interest in altmetrics has shown no sign of slowing this year. There was an excellent webinar yesterday from the Elsevier Library Connect team – it was aimed at librarians (“Librarians & Altmetrics”) but the first presentation by Mike Taylor was a general overview: “Altmetrics: a primer”.

His section was ideal for anyone who has an interest in the subject and would like a short, informed overview of the current state of play. He manages to cram the following into 13 minutes: an overview of altmetrics, who is currently measuring it, how you summarize such diverse data (& the altmetric donut!), gaming/cheating at altmetrics and other criticisms.

You can access the recording of the webinar (use the slider at the bottom to jump to 1 min 45s for the start of Mike’s presentation) or download the slides for a brief summary.
